:This past weekend I caught an episode of Oprah's Masterclass featuring comedian Kevin Hart. One of the questions I am often asked is around how I stay confident, motivated and constantly move in a forward direction even when faced with adversity. My response often times is to share how much I read about and study successful people and great leaders, past and present. They all seem to have a few key characteristics in common. What gives me a great level of strength and determination is the truth about the path successful people and great leaders walked. For most, they began with an idea and a dream. They tapped into perseverance, discipline, faith, positive thoughts, mentors, and grit just to name a few.Just like Kevin Hart who is one of the greatest and most well paid comedians of our time. When Kevin got his start he was working at a restaurant and encouraged by co-workers to attend an amateur comedy night at a local club. That club started a competition gifting the winner with $75 in prize money. Kevin won 6 times in a row and could now pay his rent so he quit the restaurant job. That same day, the comedy club closed down and Kevin was out of a job.He persevered anyway.Eventually meeting up with someone who became his greatest mentor in the comedy world, he spent 4 ENTIRE YEARS 6-7 days a week driving from Philly to NYC to comedy clubs in an effort to get into the NYC circuit.4 years!!!Everyday!!!And NOT to give comedy shows. To sit in the audience! It took him a year to even be invited to the table with the other comedians after he spent 365 days just getting to know them in the back of the room.He finally got to audition after 4 straight years of showing up!We see Kevin on tv shows and in movies on a yearly basis now but did you know every single show he was slated to be on was CUT until he made his break in 2012?So many of us have this false belief that for whatever reason 'those other people' must have just been made for success. They have something I don't have. They must have been cut from a different cloth. I must have something wrong with me.When you study the greats you will learn they are no different. The started from scratch, from ground zero. They were just willing to keep going no matter how long it took. You might be 3 feet from gold right now feeling frustrated, waiting for a big break, wondering when things are finally going to happen for you.Stop waiting. Go for it!Give 100% or don't give anything.Persistence pays off - it may not happen in a day or a month or a year...it may take 10 years. Is your vision and the impact you want to make bigger than 10 years? Bigger than 5 years? Bigger than a year? Bigger than 6 months? Bigger than 90 days?If not, you will throw in the towel. Take time to vision cast for your life, your relationships, your health, your finances, your contribution, your business. Then take action. The longer you think about the longer you will wait in wonder about when it's going to be your turn. When you take the actions aligned with your bigger vision it will happen.Persist.Focus only on the things that matter and trim the fat of what's weighting your dreams down.Share a quick story below that might inspire others today!" - Written by : Megan J Huber (She went from being a teacher to traveling all over the world as a business woman)
