I highly doubt that you will be sending mixed signals.
You are a human. You have your needs.
You will be satisfying your biological needs that's all.
There is a difference in satisfying your  biological need and wanting someone for  a  serious relationship.
So relax. Have fun. 
And just because some specific person isn't there with you yet doesn't  mean you cannot do other things you want with other people. Otherwise you are  just valuing another person more  than yourself.
No need to put your happiness on hold for another person. Never value anyone more  than yourself.

Just make it clear to the boy you will be  sleeping with, that you are  just having fun because sometimes men sleep with women and then want to have a relationship with them but the women don't want anything serious.

Next time use a sea sponge and don't worry about it being that time of the month. They can't feel the sponge.

Sea sponges tampons are similar to tampons but of sea sponge type. They absorb blood and are reusable.
You can have sex with those.
I used to  use tampons before (not  the sea sponge ones), my ex used to remove  them  and  have sex.
Now I use menstrual cups, can't have sex with those things.
But be sure to use protection even if you use the sea sponges.

I won't overthink it if I were you. The doubt alone "would it be a mixed signal" is making it a mix signal. If you truly believe you end up together with your guy no mather what, THAT is the message that the universe recieves. Just focus on your happiness/healing yourself. Date/sleep with other guys if you want. The universe will know your true desire. Even if you date other guys. Live your life, have fun and focus on yourself first. The universe always knows what you want and as soon as you are a vibrational match/let go of resistance, it will deliver.

Yea, not many guys would say no to no strings attached sex. But if you've gone this long without sex, this is something you may want to think through. When a woman sleeps with a man, her body releases oxytocin meaning you may develop feelings of attachment although this was not your intention.
Think about it. You'll make the right decision.
