That's exactly why, actually. I guess I'm afraid that if I do it and he feels like he "lost" me then it'll be a relief for him, you know what I mean?

I totally get it!
I wish I knew the link so that I could post it on here, but the gist of it is that we have good & bad cord attachments. The good ones are of course the good memories & feelings we have associated with that person & the bad cords are the bad feelings & memories. When you cut the cord, you are cutting the bad cords so that they can't have a negative influence over you or your relationship anymore. For example if he cheated, the cord cutting will help you to break that cord so that you don't keep bringing that up to your current reality. So you are keeping the good cords intact with the meditation. Besides as long as you are doing PW/BWD you will remain on his mind, just without the bad cord baggage....Hope that made sense lol

He won't feel like he lost you unless you project that feeling of loss onto him with you thoughts & feelings

Cutting the cord is great and I have used it when appropriate
Starting focusing on focusing on you. Flip the switch and make a resolve to feel good. To think good thought. To feel better feelings. Do all that for you, not to attract him back.
Start practising mental mastery. Use subliminals. Hypnosis. EFT. Seriously throw every tool and process at you mind to get it to focus.
Ultimately yes you feel hurt, but for how long you allow that hurt to guide you is determined by you and only you. Also that is a response for anyone it's applicable to not just you Blue. 😀

Thank you, Oasis. I've been reading a lot of books, especially from Mike Dooley and have been really trying - as well as doing subliminals and scripting.
