Floating

I just found out that there's a floatation center that recently opened up near me. They have those "sensory deprivation tanks" that were popular in the 70s. I just wanted to see if any of our members here have ever been in one, and if they have, have you tried doing the meditations in there? I want to try it out, but the sessions are a bit pricey so it might be a while before I can try it.

Re: Floating

I have!!!! It's AMAZING! I haven't done a meditation in there but I seriously think about doing it ALL THE TIME! I haven't been to one in about 2 years but I need to go back! I just don't know how I could play the meditation without someone hearing it! I have a waterproof Bluetooth speaker so that wouldn't be a problem-I just worry about an echo!

Re: Floating

OMG Now I'm even more excited to try it.
How long did you go in for when you did try it?  Did you have any "altered state" experiences in there?
I'll have to figure out a way to wear my head phones in there too.

Re: Floating

I think it was a 40 minute session? I definitely felt very odd-damn near had a panic attack! But then I was able to relax and it was great. It soothed aching muscles and made me feel refreshed. Would be ideal for a solid meditation for sure.

Re: Floating

I did it last year. It wasn't a "pod", more like a bathtub but pitch black when all the lights were off.

I put my phone on the edge of the tank and played the mp3 out loud but it wasn't the same. I have sweat proof headphones but not waterproof ones. If you are not provided with a little floating pillow your headphones will end up immersed. I wish there was a better way to listen with headphones and float.

You'll remember  how it felt to float and can apply that to your meditations, as if you are floating in the air.
